One of the Most Urgent Needs at this time is support to victims of the earthquake which struck the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu where ROKPA had an Orphanage School with 250 children. While most of the ROKPA Orphanage School has collapsed, so far we are not aware of any victims amongst the ROKPA orphans. However, all are mourning for friends and acquaintances who have lost their lives in the Yushu 2010 earthquake.
The 2010 Yushu earthquake struck on April 14, 2010 and registered a magnitude of 6.9 (USGS, EMSC) - 7.1 (CEA, CENC). It originated in Yushu, Qinghai, China. According to the news agency as of April 19, 2,000 people are confirmed dead, 195 missing, and over 12,000 injured - more than 1,400 severely injured.
The Yushu Earthquake Relief Effort is Currrently in Need of Your Help and Support. Your Donation is Desparately Needed to Help the People of the Yushu Region of Tibetan China Rebuild Their Lives, Their Homes and The Region's Infrastructure.

A picture stream can be found on www.picasa.com http://picasaweb.google.com/tulkupt/TheLargeEarthquakeInYushuOn14thApril2010 which shows both disturbing and touching pictures (taken on 24th April 2010) of the devastation in the aftermath of the earthquake in Yushu, as well as of the situation 10 days after the earthquake. We were glad to see many relief tents and some basic emergency infrastructure being built. It will take many years to rebuild a certain normality in Yushu.
